1. Firstly, i have learned that Density can be measured/calculated by dividing the MASS and the VOLUME of a substance.
E.g: The VOLUME of a certain type of water is 100 and the MASS of the water is 20, the equation would be 20/100 (MASS/VOLUME).
The Density of the water will then be 0.5g/ml
2. Secondly, the Density will affect if an object will float or sink in the water. a higher Density object will sink, a lower Density object will float.
E.g: With the water stated above, and two objects, 0.25g/ml and 1g/ml. The object which is 0.25g/ml will remain afloat if placed in the water whereas the 1g/ml object will sink as it has a Density of higher than the water.
3. Lastly, i learned that we can easily tell if a floating object in the water will be half submerged or fully merged by dividing the object Density with the water Density.
E.g: Again, using the water above, with two objects of 0.25g/ml and 0.1g/ml, we divide the 0.25 with the water density, 0.5. (0.25/0.5 will become HALF.) Therefore, the object will be half submerged. Now, we divide 0.1 with 0.5. (0.1/0.5 will become ONE FIFTH.) Therefore, the object will be submerged 20% into the water.
